About

Jane Ruthven at EngEdit is an assured, accredited language and scientific editor with many years experience.
Would you like your manuscript to be clearer, more accurate and more attractive to editors and readers?
Would you like your funding application to be easier to read, more authoritative and more attractive to funders?
List of things I do:
• Correct spelling, spacing, grammatical and punctuation errors
• Check for homonyms and homographs (‘false friends’ – words that sound or look alike but have different meanings)
• Check for problems of parallelism, tense and conjugations
• Eliminate improper or inappropriate language and poor or repetitive word choice
• Improve ‘flow’ hence making the text more readable
• Apply best practice in use of non-discriminatory language
• Correct for cultural sensitivities
• Clarify with author where meaning is unclear
• Cut word count by up to 5% where necessary (anything above that the author must do themselves)
• Follow the author guidelines of the journal of your choice (please enter the URL for author guidelines of journal/publisher)
• Use British English unless other is specified (dependent on author guidelines as above)

Turnaround for an average length journal article is one week (seven days) during term time (by arrangement during holiday periods and for longer documents) plus however long it takes to clarify queries between author and editor afterwards. Follow up services at extra cost include editing responses to reviewers, the adapted article and submission letters.
